Storm Damage & Emergency Roof Repair
When a nor'easter opens your roof at 11pm, you need a tarp, a clear head and a record of the damage — not a sales visit. Storm calls come first.
Damage control, done calmly
We answer when the weather doesn't
Westchester gets the full range: nor'easters with sustained wind and driving rain, summer microbursts that take down limbs, hail events that bruise shingles without breaking them, and heavy snow loads that find every weak seam. When one of them hits, the difference between a few hundred dollars of damage and a collapsed ceiling is usually what happens in the first twelve hours.
We take storm calls first. For an active leak or an open roof, we aim to be on site the same day, install emergency tarps to keep water out, and stabilize anything unsafe. That buys time to do the permanent repair properly instead of improvising in the rain.
From there we document everything — dated photographs, measurements, material identification, a written scope in the format adjusters expect. Whether you file a claim or pay directly, you'll have a defensible record of what the storm did and what it takes to fix it.
- Emergency tarping and water diversion
- Wind-lifted shingles and ridge damage
- Hail bruising and granule loss
- Fallen limbs and impact damage
- Insurance documentation and adjuster meetings
- Temporary-to-permanent repair coordination
"Tarps first. Paperwork second. Permanent repair once the weather allows."
Our standard on every job
What we handle
Storm services we provide
From the first call to the final invoice, handled by the same crew that will do the permanent repair.
01
Emergency tarping
Heavy-duty tarps secured with batten strips — not weighted with bricks — to keep water out until permanent repairs can be made safely.
02
Wind damage repair
Lifted, creased and missing shingles replaced, with ridge caps and edge metal re-secured so the next gust doesn't reopen the same area.
03
Hail damage assessment
Bruised mat and granule loss documented close-up, with test squares and a written opinion on whether the shingle has lost its warranty.
04
Limb & impact damage
Debris removed safely, puncture damage repaired, and the surrounding framing checked for the cracked rafter that often goes unnoticed.
05
Insurance support
Photo sets, measurements and a line-item scope formatted for adjusters, plus on-site meetings so the claim reflects the actual scope.
06
Flood-path drying
Recommendations for the attic and ceiling areas that got wet, so the leak doesn't turn into a mold problem three weeks later.
When to call
Call now rather than in the morning
Some of these can wait until business hours. These can't.
- Water is actively coming through a ceiling or running down a wall
- Shingles, ridge caps or flashing are missing or hanging loose
- A tree limb is on the roof or has punctured the deck
- The attic is wet and insulation is saturated
- You can hear or see daylight through the roof deck
- Gutters or fascia are separating from the house
- Hail has left dents in gutters, vents or downspouts
What to do in the first hour
Get water out from under the leak: buckets, towels, and a tarp over furniture. Move valuables and electronics out of the room. If water is near an electrical fixture, shut the circuit off at the panel before you touch anything.
Don't climb onto a wet, steep roof yourself — most storm injuries in this county happen to homeowners trying to move a limb or place a tarp. Call, and we'll assess whether tarping is needed the same day. Document what you can safely: photographs of the water damage, the ceiling stains, and anything visible on the roof from the ground.
How insurance claims actually work
Most homeowner policies in New York cover sudden storm damage — wind, hail, falling objects — and generally exclude wear and tear and long-term neglect. The adjuster's decision rests on evidence: was the damage sudden, and does the scope match what the policy covers?
That's why we document before we repair. We photograph every affected area with a scale reference, measure the damaged sections, note material and age, and format the scope the way carriers expect to read it. We don't inflate claims and we don't act as public adjusters — we simply give you and your adjuster the same clear picture.
Temporary versus permanent repair
A tarp is not a repair; it's a stopgap measured in weeks, not months. Once the weather clears and the claim or budget is settled, the permanent repair should restore the assembly — new underlayment, new flashing, matched shingles — not simply re-cover the hole.
We price both stages separately, so you can decide when to move from emergency protection to the durable fix. If your insurance covers replacement rather than repair, we'll tell you that up front instead of billing twice.
"Two other roofers told us we needed a full replacement. Westchester Roof Repair found the actual leak at the chimney flashing, fixed it in an afternoon, and we've had a dry ceiling all winter."
Dana R.
Scarsdale, NY · Chimney flashing repair
"They replaced a section of our slate roof with salvaged stone that matches the 1920s original. You cannot tell where the repair starts. The crew swept the driveway twice before leaving."
Michael P.
Bronxville, NY · Slate repair
"A nor'easter took shingles off at 11pm. They were out with tarps before morning and had the insurance photos ready before the adjuster called."
Alicia G.

Common questions
Straight answers
What homeowners ask us before booking this work.
How fast can you get out after a storm?
Storm calls get priority. We aim to be on site within 24 hours for active leaks and same-day for open roofs, and we can install emergency tarps to keep water out while the insurance process moves forward.
Will you work with my insurance company?
Yes. We document wind and hail damage with dated photographs, measurements and a written scope formatted for adjusters, and we'll meet your adjuster on site. We don't inflate claims or act as public adjusters — we simply give you a defensible record of what happened.
How much does roof repair cost in Westchester County?
Most targeted repairs fall between a few hundred dollars for a flashing or shingle repair and a few thousand for valley, chimney or flat-roof work that requires opening the roof. Full replacements are priced by square and system. We give a written, fixed price before any work starts, and the inspection itself is free.
Do you pull permits?
Where the work requires one, yes — most Westchester municipalities require a permit for re-roofing and structural repair. We handle the filing and inspections as part of the job.
